Taiwan is an island located in the China Sea and the East Asian island constitute 99% of the territory of the Republic of Taiwan. Taiwan was part of China until 1895, where annexed to the Japanese Empire by the Treaty of Shimonoseki, which ended the first Sino-Japanese War.
